Martin Villemson (1897-1933), was a chess player and chess editor from Estonia and the creator of the Villemson Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.d4.). I found the photo in an article called, "Martin Villemson - mateentusiast Pärnust" by Margus Sööt, published in the Eesti Päevaleht=Estniska Dagbladet on Jan. 19, 2006.

Jeremy Brett, the famous British actor, in his role as Sherlock Holmes. The set is probably a British ivory set, but I don’t know the design.

This photograph is interesting. The set is clearly a Staunton design, but the man’s headdress is clearly Central Asian. Probably an old Soviet photo.
